Conway Stewart Universal Lever No 370 (Stock#2770)

This is a late 1920s Conway Stewart Universal Lever No 370 "Pope's Pen". It is a very uncommon pen, especially with the straight lever. The cap has a shallow domed top and the pen has no clip. There is an incised groove around the cap near the lip. This pen was made for Conway Stewart before they had their own production facilities and the warranted nib is correct. The black hard rubber is unfaded and the chasing is sharp and unworn. There are no cracks, major scratches or bite marks and the pen closes firmly with two turns. Though the 14 carat gold nib is a needlepoint the ink flow is generous making it a pleasure to write with.

This pen was prepared for Pope's Stationary Shop in Birmingham. All in all, it is a considerable rarity in splendid condition.
