The Swan SF1 is earliest among Mabie Todd's lever fillers and still bears a close resemblance to the eyedropper fillers that preceded it. The pen is clipless and a Swan accommodation clip has been fitted. It measures 13.1cm capped. There are no cracks, major scratches or bite-marks. The cap and barrel threads are good and the pen closes firmly with a single turn. There is slight fading of the black hard rubber, greater on the cap than the barrel. The gold plating on the lever is a little worn. The barrel and cap imprints are crisp and clear. The original 14ct Swan No1 nib is a semi-flexible fine. A new sac has been fitted and the pen fills and writes superbly (see writing sample).
A very fine example of a ninety-odd-year-old pen.
